The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Hannibal Lecter Saga

The Silence of the Lambs is one of the best psychopath thrillers in cinema history. There’s that.

Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Directed by Jonathan Demme in 1991.

Within the four films of the Hannibal Lecter saga, this is hands down the best. As you all remember, the film was a hit with audiences and we were all surprised when it was nominated for the main Oscar Awards. It didn’t stop there,  because it ended up winning all of them (the five major ones, quite a milestone) with, may I add, total merit.

Other films from the Hannibal Saga: The Red Dragon, Hannibal.

Plot

We all know it: a probationary FBI agent, Clarice Starling, is sent to interview Dr. Lecter in order to obtain information about the killer Buffalo Bill. The encounter with Lecter is enlightening and we meet one of the most attractive psychopaths in cinema: intelligent and cultured, Lecter will help Clarice in her task and …. will get some benefits that were not in the agreement (but that would be  a spoiler, so I’ll keep it to myself).

The Silence of the Lambs. Movie Review

The Silence of the Lambs is a marvel of a thriller (horror, we might add). The irregular Jonathan Demme presents us with an atmosphere that drags us in, especially seduced by Dr. Lecter, who will fascinate us from the beginning. Obviously, Mr. Hopkins is the main attraction of the film and will always be remembered as Hannibal ‘the Cannibal’.

Suspense, mystery, some blood, horror… a very good movie that reaped a well-deserved success and opened the doors to three more movies (and a series, let’s not forget).

By the way, very good supporting actors (those who always make great movies and who are hardly recognized). Also, worth mentioning (apart from the script and the performances, of course) is the soundtrack. It immerses us in the atmosphere in an outstanding way.

Highly recommended. 4.5 stars.

Our Opinion

Perhaps the best thriller of all time. There you have it.
