Humphrey Bogart is one of the most iconic figures in film history, having cemented his place in cinematic legend with his unforgettable performances in classic films like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, and The African Queen. As an actor, he was renowned for his ability to bring remarkable range and subtlety to his work, creating characters that have stood the test of time.

Bogart was born Humphrey DeForest Bogart on December 25th, 1899 in New York City. His parents were Belmont DeForest and Maud Humphrey, both from prominent families. His father worked as a surgeon at Bellevue Hospital and his mother was a commercial illustrator for magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He had three siblings: brother Stephen, sister Frances, and half-brother Vincent Derenzie (from his father’s first marriage).

Bogart attended Trinity School in Manhattan before enrolling at Phillips Academy Andover. After graduating from Andover in 1918 he joined the Navy, spending two years aboard the U.S.S. Leviathan before returning to New York City after being discharged as a lieutenant junior grade due to World War I ending shortly after he enlisted. Following this he attended NYU but dropped out after just one year due to financial troubles caused by the Great Depression beginning that same year.

In 1921 Bogart began acting with small roles on Broadway, appearing alongside his mother in the play Drifting. This was followed by bigger roles throughout the 1920s until a few well-received performances caught Hollywood’s attention and led him to sign with Fox Film Corporation in 1930 where he made many forgettable films until leaving them after four years when they refused to renew his contract because of poor box office results from previous films featuring him as lead actor.

However Bogart’s luck changed dramatically when Warner Bros signed him up for their studio’s criminal projects which would later become known as “Bogart Movies” thanks to their success with audiences around the world making him one of cinema’s most beloved stars ever since then. Thanks to these roles (with classics such as The Maltese Falcon or Casablanca) Bogart earned an Oscar for Best Actor for the 1951 film The African Queen becoming an icon not only for film lovers but also for those who admired his style: trench coats and a Fedora hat that became part of Humphrey’s image forever afterwards..

In addition to acting Bogart also enjoyed sailing boats around his residence located north of Los Angeles; it was also during this time that he met Lauren Bacall while filming To Have and Have Not (1944), they got married shortly afterwards while still shooting The Big Sleep (1945). They had two children together: Stephen Humphrey (born 1949) and Leslie Howard (born 1952). Bacall once said about her husband: “He brought out things in me I never knew were there.”

Bogart died on January 14th 1957 at age 57 due to throat cancer; surprisingly it only took 15 days between diagnosis date and death day without any chemotherapy sessions performed during this period as per doctors’ recommendation due to advanced stage of cancer on its last stages instead being offered palliative care at home surrounded by family up until its end while being honored with three posthumous Oscars Awards nominations all within same year itself plus receiving special award given by Academy Board Of Governors honorarily although unfortunately didn’t obtained any other recognition anymore since then as far as acting goes outside recognition already gained during lifetime already instead focusing more on humanitarian tasks like fighting against hunger through United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF organization among other several organizations existing nowadays still bearing remembrance about Humphrey Bogart forevermore afterwards even till this day onwards without doubt whatsoever…
