For Jojo Movie Review Netflix

For Jojo is a 2022 drama directed by Barbara Ott. Starring Caro Cult, Nina Gummich and Steven Sowah.

A story written by Steven Sowah.

Synopsis

Jojo and Paula have been best friends since childhood.

Now grown up, they share flat in Berlin, and count on each other for everything. The setup seems to work for both. Party seems to be the name of their game.

Enter Daniel, and the drama begins.

Jojo and Daniel fall in love, and get engaged to soon be married. Upon this news Paula falls into a spiral. Her life is suddenly wrecked. The plans she had, which ironically seem to be none, are now changed. Paula is now broke, feels abandoned, and in despair. She does not shy away from showing her disappointment with her best friend’s plans for the future, which do not include her other than on the periphery.

The movie is full of ironies. One of the most salient ones being Paula herself posing the question, “Ever heard of boundaries?”

Review

A compelling story, that proved to be less dramatic than expected, and more humane in its portrayal of the shifts a friendship can go through, how the parties involved are affected, and how they react. Highly psychological, and without melodrama, it gives us a good no-stress account that we recommend if you are looking for a down to earth feature film.

As far as the dialogue goes, it flows naturally. It is convincing thanks to the social realist approach of the film.
