Review of Chapter 3 – Drive
Filmed in dark hues throughout the entire episode it sets the sinister tone of this story. A well compiled narrative with a beginning, middle and end, it is though, a bit slow in tempo and does not engage the viewer right off the bat. It is thanks to the fact that we know that there are good producers behind that we manage to stay put and watch it in its entirety. Thankfully, as said, it does come full circle, and gives us closure in the end.
The performances are in order, delivering a dialogue that is well adapted to the setting, and applying just about the right amount of theatrics required.
This episode although playing on the psychological tension, with the suspense of not knowing, does indulge in more gore than the previous chapters, and it is a question of taste if you enjoy it or not.
Our Opinion
This is not the best chapter of American Horror Stories Season 3. It is not only very slow in tempo, but actually also quite repugnant, leaning on more overt gore. We will admit though, that there is a well rounded story being told, however unpleasant it may be.
