Glorious is a movie directed by Rebekah McKendry, starring Ryan Kwanten.
A movie with a location that can only its imaginative premise its forte.
Premise
Wes is desperate after a tough break-up. While in a restroom he hears a voice claiming to be a demigod and that is when things start to become nonsensical.
Review
It is an imaginative and funny movie, indeed. Will it become a blockbuster? It probably won’t make it that far, but it is amusing entertainment in the format of a limited budget movie, it even manages to be funny and it does have certain style – it is blatantly ambitious in the way someone who has nothing to lose is.
Glorious is carefree, has a good narrative tempo and comedic timing, and considering how little substance it has, the producers have placed their bet well in this indie dark comedy about a man who talks to a demigod through a hole, THE glory hole no less, and confronts a decomposing universe, with a fractured conscience…. It seems that this was created by people who simply felt like making a movie, which is a feat in itself.
Glorious squeezes what it has to work with to the max. and does so, well with its metaphysical absurd humor, which might lag a bit in acuity, and perhaps even with too much “BS” or perhaps, with meager resources…. What matters is that in the end the movie is original and keeps the viewers entertained. We do not assume there were any lofty pretensions with this film.
Our Opinion
A very funny movie that we cannot but respect for its bold sense of comical-absurdist-metaphysical nihilism, which in reality has been the excuse to simply make a (good) movie.
