Detective Knight: Rogue is a movie directed by Edward Drake, who, by the way has directed quite a few of the latest movies starring Bruce Willis.
A run-of-the-mill thriller with a retro touch that is out of vogue, but nevertheless has its aficionados.
Premise
As Los Angeles prepares for Halloween, mask-wearing armed robbers critically wound detective James Knight’s partner in a shootout following a heist. With Knight in hot pursuit, the bandits flee L.A. for New York, where the detective’s dark past collides with his present case and threatens to tear his world apart…unless redemption can claim Knight first.
About the Movie
Once again we are offered a movie where we will have to repeat what we have previously said: Bruce Willis deserves our respect, and should be remembered for movies from another era. ‘Detective Knight: Rogue’ is not the worst of its kind, leaning heavily on the 80’s thriller style, albeit lacking the good things in the films in the genre of that era (the sense of humor, the cheeriness, and joviality). In this movie there is neither of those traits, and becomes therefore just one more number that seeks refuge in the actor’s waning career (we always think it will be the last movie of his, and yet are offered a new feature in what seems to be on a monthly basis).
On this occasion it tells the story of bank robbers vs. police – nothing new in that theme. There is action, though not much, which is condensed into the couple of minutes we see in the trailer.
Are we disenchanted? Yes, somewhat. But we are especially a bit (if not very) bitter on behalf of a subgenre that is now showing signs of definitive decay, at least in the formula used in ‘Detective Knight: Rogue’.
