The Banshees of Inisherin is an excellent film written and directed by Martin McDonagh. It is starred by Colin FarrellBrendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon.

You need to be blind to not  notice it: this is an absolutely special movie. It is noteworthy from the very first frame in everything.

Storyline

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

A film in the flavor of John Ford, quality filming in each frame, composition, very studied photography, elaborated narrative (and tricky, because making complicated things look simple is… really complicated) and devoted acting that is outstanding in the two leading roles.

But the film has a character that does not appear: Martin McDonagh, who is outstanding as he was in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing (2017). The first thing this marvelous film has is what every (marvelous) film should have: a consistent screenplay. This movie has that: characters, rhythm, situations and the conflict which evolves in crescendo and gives way to what the movie is really about in the end, (solitude, time…). Then the rest (photography, settings, good actors). When all of this is combined, you get marvelous films like this one, which truly, is a delight to watch.

A special mention should be for an actor called Colin Farrell who is not always appreciated, he does a great job in this difficult role, due to its unusualness, because of the accent, the attitudes… a conversion manual that has Brendan Gleeson as an austere support and dozens of incredible actors, which as John Ford directs achieve a great choral narrative.

This is a thousand tales in one, great stories that bring the characters close, who know how to enter with a smile, bypass the distant drama of the war and shape a film that merits being appreciated in its totality of each of its extremely elaborate scene compositions.

A film like olden times, a true classic.
