White Men Can’t Jump is a comedy directed (by a certain) Calmatic starring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow.
You know those comedies that are hard to finish watching? When you’re not having an inspired day and you do a routine remake without much to offer you get movies that, unfunny as they are, would be best passed over.
Now I should have to add that it’s not that bad.
Storyline
Seemingly opposite street hoopers, Jeremy, an injury prone former star, and Kamal, a has-been prodigy, team up to take one final shot at living out their dreams.
Movie Review
A remake of White Men Can’t jump in which, as a remake, comparisons are inevitable: neither the actors, the script nor the film are up to the original. That one was a bombshell in its day and surprised by its naturalness and freshness. This one has neither of those two attractions.
As a film, it is correct, no one’s respectability is seriously damaged and there are no bad performances. It is simply correct, but it is not funny, and that is a mortal sin for a comedy.
About the encounter between people of different “color” through basketball… fine, but it has already been done and with better results and, on top of that, with the same plot, so we could only hope that, in its repetition, they would offer us a better-quality update, with more rhythm and funniness.
Either they didn’t want to, or they didn’t have the day, or they simply didn’t feel like it.
A comedy that, compared to it transgressive genesis, is not transgressive anymore and remains in the most anodyne correction.
It is one of those movies that make you feel old and tell you that any time begone was better and that, in my time, comedies were funnier.
There are better comedies today.
