Big Mäck: Gangsters and Gold (Big Mäck – Gangster und Gold) is a documentary directed by Fabienne Hurst, Andreas Spinrath and Facundo Scalerandi.

A fascinating documentary about a man who is accused of a robbery and, after being proven innocent, gets out. Years later, he is accused of another similar crime. Could it be a coincidence?

Stellwag was a colorful and robust man, one of those people who do not go unnoticed, not even robbing a bank at gunpoint, Bonnie and Clyde style.

As he himself tells us in the documentary: they put the only “giant fat man” in a lineup and it’s impossible not to be singled out.

Stellwag is sentenced to 9 years after being denied a coherent alibi. He was convicted on account of his physical appearance (and his left ear). After being released from prison (9 whole years) our protagonist gets out of prison and, once again, receives a letter: a bank robbery with a hostage and Stellwag is yet again accused: same hat, same burly appearance and identical accused.

Coincidence? Big Mäck: Gangsters and Gold is a curious documentary that tells us this story with testimonies from the protagonist himself and where we will try to reconstruct a bizarre judicial story full of uncertainties.

If you want to know the story, it starts this Thursday on Netflix.
