Family Switch | Movie on Netflix: A traditional and familiar role-swap movie

Family Switch is a comedy movie directed by McG starring Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers, and Brady Noon.

Traditions are something that repeat and, in a way, make us feel comfortable. This is Christmas, which comes every year with its traditions and, every year, repeats itself in a loop to deceive us with the idea that time remains still and the Universe is something secure.

“Family Switch” is a bit like that, a movie that repeats in traditions, jokes, and Christmas clichés, and in some way, it had to be and couldn’t be otherwise in order not to alter the quantum structure of the Universe.

Plot

Family Switch

Due to a cosmic combination that is not fully explained (better that way), the roles of a family are altered: now the parents are in the bodies of the children, and the children are in the bodies of the parents.

The funniest and almost the only original part: the dog is now the little child, and vice versa.

Movie review

Typical movie about role swapping between parents and children. It worked thirty years ago, and it still works based on the unchanging repetition of arguments: the child has to go to the parent’s work, and the parent must deal with high school problems. The rest: a series of situations that, more or less well-executed, lead us from one mess to another until, after the movie, we easily forget it so that the galaxy keeps spinning around the black hole.

The main attraction of the movie is its star, Jennifer Garner, a star who, at least in this movie, doesn’t manage to shine because there isn’t much to shine with a comedic role that she plays very professionally and as the great actress she is. There was no way to do it better.

Technically, it is a good Hollywood production with all its machinery and the entire industry behind it, ready to sell this traditional prefabricated product.

A Christmas movie like so many others: silly, traditional, and that neither wants nor needs nor knows nor takes advantage of breaking any boundaries because, precisely, this movie is about reaffirming in the norms and traditions.

Objective accomplished.

Our opinion

These movies were made before, are made now, and most likely will be made in twenty years, no matter how much technology evolves. They have nothing wrong, neither do they discover anything, but they are pleasant because we know exactly what to expect, when to expect it, and why, without altering at all.
