Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire is a movie directed by Zack Snyder starring Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, and Charlie Hunnam.

Zack Snyder takes on the task of creating his own saga, which is quite reminiscent of Star Wars and unfortunately, will be the subject of comparisons by everyone.

It falls somewhere between Star Wars and Dune, yet with the director’s signature style that he became known for in the film 300 (2006).

If you appreciate his style, this is another go at the formula that relies on slow-motion shots, computer effects, and comic book-like image enhancements. This has proven to be the key to success and recognition for the director, whether we like it or not, he has his own brand and style.

Another notch in his brilliant career.

This is the first part of the series (the second part will also be released on April 19 on Netflix) that, if we momentarily try to avoid inevitable comparisons, is spectacular and visually magnificent. It is filled with imagination, multiple storylines, and yes, once again, the story of rebels in the galaxy that has become so familiar to us since we were young.

It doesn’t invent anything new, and we don’t even know if it could have, but it’s a film that brings Star Wars into Zack Snyder’s universe, and it doesn’t disappoint at all: it’s highly entertaining and a true spectacle. It is well-executed in terms of characters, narrative, and obviously, it’s a visual feast.

However, does it surprise us at this point in the director’s career? Not really, but it does make us wonder if, with such visual talent, a recreation of a galactic saga is what we were expecting.

Our Opinion

The galactic spectacle of this holiday season.

Enjoy it. It delivers the visual luxury we were expecting and the evident resemblance we also anticipated.
