The head had been cut off after embalming, with the marrow and joints severed. But something unusual caught the eye: two red rubber balls in the victim’s eyes.
Police raked the area for other body parts, but nothing was found. After several DNA tests and consultations with the FBI, the victim could not be identified.
But it was only the beginning of a macabre story: the head belonged to a woman who had died in the 1950s and had been decapitated.
