“Cross” arrives on Prime Video: a crime thriller series featuring a detective with a strong personality

Cross” ss a thriller series starring Aldis Hodge with Isaiah Mustafa and Alona Tal.

The Prime Video adaptation of James Patterson’s bestselling novel arrives as a crime thriller series starring Aldis Hodge in the lead role as the charismatic detective Alex Cross. This classic series, imbued with personality, uses racial tension as the underlying thread in a narrative involving murders, suspects, and a very compelling detective, Alex Cross.
It is engaging, particularly for fans of traditional police investigation thrillers. Though not groundbreaking in its concepts or aesthetics, it effectively portrays the realistic dynamics of the investigation and the accompanying social and racial tensions.

Plot

Alex Cross has been grieving the loss of his wife for a year. He is currently handling a case involving a young man who appears to have died from an overdose. However, all signs suggest it was not an overdose but a homicide.
A year after his wife’s murder, new clues about her death surface, prompting Cross to dig deeper into her case.

About the series

“Cross” does not aim to innovate within the thriller genre but boasts a significant asset: the engaging and charismatic performance of its lead actor, Aldis Hodge, who brings to life a homicide detective with great depth, charisma, straightforwardness, and intelligence, staying true to the book’s depiction.

The storyline leads viewers through a web of murders, clues, plot twists… a familiar territory for this genre of series or films. In fact, “Cross” could have easily been a 90-minute movie given its structure, but it takes the form of a series, allowing for a more gradual pace and a deeper exploration of the social and racial aspects of the investigation.

It is entertaining, with a straightforward premise that doesn’t seek to reinvent the thriller genre: viewers will find comfort in a thriller that delivers exactly what it promises: a central character with great charisma solving a complex case.

Cinematically, it is a faithful adaptation of Patterson’s novel, successfully creating a gritty atmosphere and realistically depicting the settings.

The series features a strong ensemble of supporting characters who revolve around Alex Cross.

“Cross,” while not breaking new ground, succeeds in providing an entertaining and solid police thriller.

Our opinion

Pleasant to watch, yet lacking that distinctive touch that would set it apart from numerous other investigation thrillers. The highlight is Aldis Hodge’s performance, which crafts a character deserving of a second season.
