The beloved bear from Darkest Peru is back in his third cinematic outing, “Paddington in Peru,” directed by Dougal Wilson in his feature film debut. This latest installment in the successful franchise sees Paddington returning to his roots in a journey that combines heart, humor, and a touch of mystery.
The film’s narrative centers around Paddington receiving news that his Aunt Lucy is acting strangely at the Home for Retired Bears in Peru. Concerned, Paddington and the Brown family embark on an expedition to South America. Upon arrival, they discover Aunt Lucy has vanished, leaving behind only her glasses and a cryptic map leading to Rumi Rock.
As the Browns seek assistance to navigate Peru’s diverse landscapes, they encounter Hunter Cabot and his daughter Gina, treasure hunters with their own agenda. The story unfolds against the backdrop of Peru’s lush jungles and towering Andes, intertwining Paddington’s search for his aunt with local legends and the mythical city of El Dorado.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, with Ben Whishaw reprising his role as the voice of Paddington. Hugh Bonneville and Emily Mortimer return as Mr. and Mrs. Brown, joined by series regulars Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent. New additions to the ensemble include Olivia Colman as a mysterious nun and Antonio Banderas in an undisclosed role, adding intrigue to the adventure.
“Paddington in Peru” marks a departure from its London-centric predecessors, offering viewers a visual feast of Peruvian landscapes.
