Details of the Booth at Art Basel Hong Kong

Hauser & Wirth’s booth (1C21) at the fair will debut a new work ‘Blues in A flat’ (2021) by George Condo, from his new series of large-scale canvas ‘Blues’ paintings. More from the series will be revealed at Condo’s upcoming Long Museum (Shanghai) exhibition in late September – ‘The Picture Gallery,’ Condo’s largest solo exhibition in Asia.

Also on view will be outstanding new works made this year by artists Cindy Sherman, Rashid Johnson and Jenny Holzer, among others. Rashid Johnson’s ‘Untitled Broken Crowd’ (2021) expands the visual language of his ongoing ‘Anxious Men’ series. Johnson’s latest paintings suggest the bruising realities of the past year while inviting reflection on possible paths to healing in a post-pandemic future. Jenny Holzer’s ‘TOP SECRET SLASH’ (2021) continues her iconic ‘Top Secret’ series, where she uses redacted US government documents as the basis to create paintings or prints. Here, she replaced the censored components with heavy forms of moon gold and red gold leaf.

Other highlights include a major large-scale painting by Gary Simmons ‘Hangfire’ (2019), this is the gallery’s first presentation of work by the artist in Asia since announcing its representation of Simmons in March 2021. These important contemporary works will be complemented by historic masterpieces, including a grandly gestural painting ‘Purple Force’ (2001) by Ed Clark, and Louise Bourgeois’s gouache on paper works made in 2000s.

Hauser & Wirth’s booth will also include a work by Pipilotti Rist, whose major solo exhibition ‘Your Eye Is My Island’ is currently on view at National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.
