During her childhood, Lawrence showcased her talent in church plays and school musicals. At the age of 14, while on a family vacation in New York City, she caught the attention of a talent scout. This led her to move to Los Angeles and embark on her acting career, initially taking on guest roles on television. She gained prominence as a main cast member on the sitcom The Bill Engvall Show (2007โ€“2009). Lawrence made her film debut in the supporting role of the drama Garden Party (2008) and gained critical acclaim for her breakthrough performance as Ree Dolly, a poverty-stricken teenage girl, in the independent mystery drama Winter’s Bone (2010). Her career flourished with leading roles as the mutant Mystique in the X-Men film series (2011โ€“2019) and as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series (2012โ€“2015), establishing her as the highest-grossing action heroine of all time.

Lawrence has received numerous accolades for her work, particularly for her collaborations with director David O. Russell. Her portrayal of a young widow with an unnamed mental disorder in the romance film Silver Linings Playbook (2012) earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the second-youngest recipient of the award at the age of 22. Additionally, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as an unpredictable wife in the black comedy American Hustle (2013). Lawrence has also been honored with Golden Globe Awards for both films and for her portrayal of businesswoman Joy Mangano in the biopic Joy (2015). Following a period of critical reception to several of her films, such as Passengers (2016) and Red Sparrow (2018), and the subsequent scrutiny of her role choices by the media, Lawrence took a brief hiatus from acting. However, she made a comeback in 2021 with the satirical black comedy Don’t Look Up. In 2022 and 2023, she served as a producer and starred in the drama film Causeway and the romantic comedy film No Hard Feelings, respectively.
