Museum of the Home is looking forward to another brilliant year of welcoming visitors though its doors. Alongside its permanent galleries, including the beloved Rooms Through Time installation, visitors are invited to yearly staples such as their charity Yard Sale, Summer Party and Winter Festival and the Museum is introducing exciting new events such as Queeriosities and Ceramics and the City.
Starting in January, Green Lunar New Year at Museum of the Home will see a sustainable spin on traditional East and Southeast Asian celebrations, focusing on issues around sustainability and climate change. Presented in collaboration with East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) community group Green Lions, the Museum will ring in the Chinese Year of the Rabbit and Vietnamese Year of the Cat with a day of fun, creativity and reflection including creative workshops for all, supper clubs catered by ESEA chefs, mahjong club, talks by thought-provoking speakers, film screenings and exhibitions, and a lively market stall selling unique products by ESEA artisans.
Following the success of its inaugural Yard Sale event in March 2022, the Museum is delighted to announce its return. Bringing together makers from across interior design, art, fashion and beauty alongside opportunities for a rummage through vintage gems, Yard Sale 2023 on Saturday 25th February will raise funds for the Museum’s campaign for change, Behind the Door, which tackles female hidden homelessness. Visitors can shop for beautiful, unique pieces and gifts while taking in the cultural setting of the Museum and gardens, with a chance to book exclusive, curator-led tours of the beautifully restored 18th century almshouses and fascinating Museum archives. The Yard Sale will be an amazing day out that will make a difference to
thousands of women’s lives.
From 19th to 21st May the Museum will host Queeriosities, a makers’ market led by LGBTQ+ creatives exploring visions and representations of domesticity and home, curated by Davy Pittoors. The event will raise funds for updating the 1998 room and telling more LGBTQ+ stories throughout the Museum.
Fundraising for The Museum’s campaign for change, the Museum will hold its Summer Party on Saturday 1st July. Bringing all the fun of the fair to its elegant lawns, this family-focused day will evoke a traditional village fete feel, from coconut shies to magicians, giant lawn games, craft activities, plus delectable food and refreshments for a brilliant family day out. Party legends Big Fish Little Fish are hosting one of their legendary sets to close the day for little ravers and their grown-ups. Tickets to Summer Party will go on sale on Monday 3rd April 2023 and start at £6.
Over the weekend of Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th September is Ceramics in the City, London’s showcase and market of work by over 40 leading ceramicists lands at Museum of the Home. Ceramics in the City is an opportunity to meet ceramicists and to pick up an eclectic selection of their works for your home, from practical tableware to ornamental objects and striking one-off collector pieces.
Returning for its third year in 2023, the Museum’s Winter Festival invites everyone to join a vibrant programme of celebrations, bringing colour, light, warmth and joy to punctuate the cold, dark months between October 2023 and January 2024.
2023 promises to be a great year with fun events for all the family; with a wide-ranging offering including art, culture, history, outdoors and great food and drink, Museum of the Home really does have something for everyone.
