Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to announce a new solo exhibition by Angelo Filomeno, Works. New Millenium, on view at MUST – Museo Storico della Città di Lecce, Italy through October 22, 2023.
Works. New Millenium is the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Italian-American artist Angelo Filomeno. Comprising more than sixty works across mediums—including embroideries, drawings, watercolors, and installations—the exhibition traces the artist’s practice from 2001, the year Filomeno developed his signature visual language with his first “embroidered paintings,” to the present. Early works on view depict macabre characters, such as skeletons, beasts, and insects, while recent works depicting American barns and circuses demonstrate how Filomeno has merged technical and aesthetic skill in painting, embroidery, and craft to introduce an expanded use of color and material.
The exhibition is conceived by the director of MUST, Claudia Branca, and curated by Massimo Guastella, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Salento, and will be accompanied by a catalogue edited by Guastella and published by Sfera Srl and MUST Edizioni.
