Marking the artist’s first major museum survey in the United States, Barry X Ball: Remaking Sculpture opens Saturday, January 25 at Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas.

Featuring a selection of works from Ball’s landmark series, Portraits and Masterpieces, the exhibition surveys over twenty years of the highly technical but classically-inspired work of the New York artist.

Ball’s extensive practice in stone, in which he employs both traditional and digital techniques, pushes the physical and conceptual boundaries of sculpture. Using state-of-the-art 3-D digital scanning technology, computer-aided design software and CNC milling machines in combination with centuries-old techniques, the artist reinvents traditional sculptural formats and existing art historical landmarks.Through his use of unconventional materials and methods, Ball’s 21st century approach disrupts the linearity of time and reimagines the valence of iconic masterpieces in a contemporary setting.
