In 2018, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC organized Enrico David: Gradations of Slow Release, the artist’s first US museum survey. Curated by Michael Darling and featuring sculptures, paintings, textiles and works on paper, the exhibition travelled in 2019 to the Hirshhorn.
In conjunction with the opening in Washington, Hirshhorn chief curator Stéphane Aquin invited Enrico David to participate in an interview at the museum. Together, they discussed David’s creative process, his early years living as an artist in London, and his 2019 participation in the Venice Biennale, where he represented Italy.
David was born in Ancona, Italy in 1966 and lives and works in London. He has exhibited internationally throughout his 20-year career, including exhibitions at London’s Tate Modern, ICA London, UCLA Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the New Museum in New York City, among many others.
