The refining touch of seasons changing, weaving the colours of time that belongs to Hong Kong. The exhibition opening will be held on 16 March, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and will remain on view until 22 April, 2023. The artist will be present during the opening.
In Fatina Kong’s works, the reality of the landscape is hidden under its visual appearance. Her seemingly realist painting is not a copy of scenery as a photograph, but is the viewer’s emotional attachment to a place. Using colours as the language of expressing her emotions, she immerses her sentiment into the landscape of Hong Kong. The round shape of her artwork symbolises the cycle of nature. The blooming and falling of flowers implies that time never waits for anything. The disappeared landscape will live forever in everyone’s memory through her artworks. Time Comes in Different Colours belongs to the impermanence and eternity of Hong Kong as our home.
About the Artist
Fatina Kong (b. 1992, Hong Kong) graduated from the Academy of Visual Art, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2015. After receiving her art degree, she keeps exploring ways to combine Chinese painting with Western media. In 2018, Kong went to Xining, China to further study painting; and in the same year, she also participated in an artist residency program in Japan, which she found resonance in the Eastern painting more than ever. Inspired by the recordings and images from her daily life, her works give shape to a new landscape that merges memories and fantasy. On top of ink and Chinese pigment as painting media, she adds new layers to her works by using materials such as resin and acrylic board, to create a unique temperament that echoes with the traditional Chinese aesthetic. She has been exhibited in Hong Kong, China and Japan.
