From 9 June to 23 August 2021, the Centre Pompidou in Paris presents a survey exhibition dedicated to James Coleman, whose major work since the early 1960s has explored the limits and distinct traditions of painting, photography, and film, deconstructing the nature of the still and moving image, language, and representation.

Artworks on view include Early Films (1967-72), Fly (1970), Slide Piece (1972-73), La Tache Aveugle (1978-90), So Different… and Yet (1978-80), Charon (MIT Project) (1989), I N I T I A L S (1993-94), Retake with Evidence (2007), and Still Life (2013-16). An accompanying catalogue in French features texts by Raymond Bellour, Bernard Blistene, Benjamin Buchloh, Lynne Cooke, Jean Fisher, Nicolas Liucci Goutnikov, Rosalind Krauss, and others.
