Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to announce Jaume Plensa’s participation in the 13th Mercosul Biennial, curated by Marcello Dantas which will take place from September 15 to November 20, 2022, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

This 13th edition theme “Trauma, Dream, Escape” recognizes the notion of trauma – be it personal or collective – as the most important trigger in the artistic process, and dreams as the best stratagems to escape from it.

“Plensa’s work concretizes the relationship between the unconscious and the conscious. His exhibition at the Fundação Iberê Camargo is the central point of departure for the Biennial. The themes of trauma, dreams, and escape are encapsulated throughout the works and expand into the different presentations throughout the city,” the curator Marcello Dantas shared during the opening.

The collective traumatic experience, such as the pandemic the world is going through, has driven artistic creation towards new territories. Its impact on our common imagination by means of activation of onirism, dreams and delirium opens doors for us to escape from a condition that was imposed on all of us.
