Forty years after his death, French artist of Polish descent Emanuel Proweller (1918-1981) is the subject of a first U.S. solo presentation since 1963. Celebrated for bright, geometric paintings that announced the arrival of La Nouvelle Figuration in Paris, Proweller pioneered a style that presaged the bold, iconic Pop works of his American counter- parts. Organized in close collaboration with the artist’s estate, the presentation at Venus will feature key paintings from the 1960s, as well as earlier and later works that trace the trajectory of Proweller’s practice.
