Gallery 1957, Accra is proud to present a solo exhibition of French artist Tiffanie Delune’s (b. 1988 Paris, France) latest works. Running from March 29 to May 13, 2023, the exhibition, entitled There’s Gold on The Palms of My Hands, follows Delune’s three-month residency with the gallery in Accra. Building on her previous exploration of spirituality, identity, and the natural world, the exhibition showcases Delune’s deeper foray into abstraction, as she creates vivid dreamscapes using canvas and textile.
Delune’s new multimedia works are a rich dialogue of colour and characters, conjuring up magical landscapes at the intersection of fantasy and experience. Her multifaceted practice incorporates various materials, from bright acrylic and oil pastels to glitter, papercuts, and thread on canvas, as well as hanging textiles. Drawing inspiration from Matisse cut-outs and her own mixed-race background, Delune’s fifteen new works reflect the vibrant colours and energy of Accra, marking a progression in her style as she delves deeper into the feminine and spiritual.
The titles of the works on show in the exhibition hold messages that reflect the iconography of Delune’s visual and poetic storytelling. In Everywhere is Foreign, Everywhere is Home (2023), Delune explores themes of identity, time, seasons, places, and connections. The canvas is adorned with a balance of shapes and animals against a backdrop inspired by Accra’s bright yellow skies. Delune also experiments with darker tones in The Fall Is Never Too High to Blossom (2023) a large-scale work depicting three trees moving across the seasons of spring, summer, and autumn.
Delune’s latest exhibition continues her ongoing visual research of the self through time, places, and lenses, featuring surrealist works that evoke the imagination, freedom, and innocence of our inner child. Her use of glitter and thread enhances her continued interest in her spiritual journey.
