Within the framework of the Africa2020 Season Until the 26th September 2021 at the Towers and Ramparts of Aigues Mortes

The Centre des Monuments Nationaux, in association with Rubis Mecenat, invites Joël Andrianomearisoa to take possession of the Towers and Ramparts of Aigues-Mortes until the 26 September 2021, as part of the Africa2020 Season.

In  the  exhibition  “Brise du  rouge soleil” {Sun-Red  Breeze), the  artist will present a series of works, along the ramparts and  from tower  to  tower,  which  will evoke  his  world and the history of the monument. These  will  include  textile  works,  sculptures,  metal structures placed along the parapet walk and more. The result of research work and several study trips, the artist was inspired by the memory of the ancient port city open to the Mediterranean, with its lagoon and the salt marshes, materials from the Camargue and elsewhere, as well as the writings of the Malagasy poet Maurice Ramarozaka (1931- 2010).

For this exhibition “Brise du rouge soleil”, Andrianomearisoa will revive the memory of the 1ih century city, the first royal port located at the farthest frontiers of the kingdom of France. It was a city that saw the departure of two crusades led by Saint Louis, but whose role declined in the 15th century, due to the silting up of the ramparts and competition from Marseille. Inspired by the memory of the ancient port city open on the Mediterranean, by the Malagasy poet Maurice Ramarozaka (1931-2010), by the lagoon and the salt marshes, and by the materials of the Camargue and elsewhere, the artist will offer an infinite journey along the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes and from tower to tower, like a long poem unfurling itself like a papyrus roll delivering its mysterious clues.

Brise du rouge soleil…, by Joël Andrianomearisoa

Meeting and reunion. Separation and absence. History and stories. Fabulations and truth. Legends and narratives. Myths and tales.
But the most important of all: dreams.
It is an enigma, a rebus, a treasure hunt that unfolds from space to space, from tower to tower and takes us on a sensory journey along the ramparts of the fortified city of Aigues Martes.
And so it is like a red breeze passing over our hearts
This exhibition will be published by Editions du Patrimoine in the collection “Un artiste, un monument” Price: €5, 18 x 28 cm, 36 x 58 cm in poster format, 32 pages
