Plot
Eva is a gunslinger for a criminal organization. In one of her escapades, she screws up by murdering the son of one of the kingpins whilst getting herself into another pickle and gets help from an old group of female friends of her mother’s, who was also a formidable woman.
The Movie. Review
It’s conceived of as a “gimcrack” that leaves a lot of “reel” for the director. It is one of those movies that are a pleasure to direct, which you can give style to and you can accentuate the most artistic aspects and, what the hell, get up to some tomfoolery with the camera leaving aside all the formalities. Come on, it’s a piece of cake for directors.
Now, all the artistic approaches, all that careful photography of contrasts and the pastel colours, all the comic aesthetics that are so stark and polished, it all remains a little hollow due to a script that barely exists from the beginning and that the film boasts about emphasizing that it does not have. There are scenes, some of them excellent even, with no other objective than to complete themselves in the most effective and gimmicky way possible.
It gives the impression that with these premises it could have been “the big one”, but the movie becomes a little meaningless with its jokes that aren’t very funny, and that – given the precedents – there are funnier ones and which have known how to exploit these brutal action movies in a much more amusing way and, in addition, with some meaning.
That said: it does come up with a little of what it aims to: empty entertainment that goes nowhere and doesn’t want to either.
You spend two passable hours oscillating between shootings, chases and slow motion shots.
Very good editing – which is something that is always taken for granted and that usually stands out in these kinds of productions. And it really is outstanding in that respect.
Our Opinion
Although it is throw-away, it also helps us to have a good time. It has elaborate shots and effective photography.
Great design throughout.
