Downtown Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) is proud to announce their next major solo show, entitled Future Seasons, featuring new works from London-based award-winning artist duo Kai & Sunny.

Debuting on May 14th in Gallery 2, this new body of work from Kai & Sunny showcases their uniquely distinguishable compositions of acrylic paintings on linen canvas and archival ballpoint pen drawings on paper. The works are created by hand building thin intricate lines methodically upon each other. Featuring 17 original pieces, Future Seasons marks Kai & Sunny’s third solo at CHG (following 2020’s The Great Curve and 2019’s In The Drift) and is the duo’s most ambitious exhibition to date with the largest canvas measuring 79” x118”.

Regarding their upcoming show, Kai & Sunny share, “Future Seasons explores the changing seasons through the yearly cycle and how our connection to this creates dynamic mood shifts within us. The collection draws on our dependence with nature, for our health and happiness, in times of future uncertainty. The space, movement, and transference of color in the works create an atmosphere of how one feels when subjected to the force whilst surrounded by nature.” Adding, “The mesmerizing lines in each piece push and pull as if caught in a state of flux, creating infinite movement and naturalistic rhythm, appearing both serene and ominous at the same time. In areas of the paintings, the lines possess a tension twisting and distorting the form, whilst in other areas, the lines are free and flowing.”

About Kai & Sunny:

UK-based artist duo Kai & Sunny (born 1975 and 1977, respectively) both graduated from the Epsom School of Art in Surrey, United Kingdom with degrees in Art and Design. The pair have won numerous accolades (including a D&AD Design Award in 2012 and a LIA award in 2015) and have collaborated with the likes of author David Mitchell, designer Alexander McQueen, and artist Shepard Fairey. Works by Kai & Sunny have been exhibited internationally (including at institutions such as Haunch of Venison), included in the Victoria & Albert Museum Print Archive Collection, and has been acquired by Tiffany and Co. for their collection.

In conjunction with their In The Drift exhibition at Corey Helford Gallery (September 2019), the pair collaborated with Element Skateboards on a set of new skate decks, plus they painted two murals while visiting Southern California for their show. The first mural was painted just before the opening of their CHG show at Element Skateboards HQ in Huntington Beach (click here to view) and the second larger mural was painted just after the opening at The Berrics (click here to view), the world famous skatepark based in downtown Los Angeles and owned by Steve Berra and Eric Koston. The artwork depicted on both the skate decks and murals was also featured in their show at CHG.

Additionally, their work has been profiled by JuxtapozHypebeastSlateVICE, and Hi-Fructose, among others. Sample of praise here:

The idea that such sophisticated and detailed pieces are executed by hand is mind-blowing.
