Many of these pieces come with a fascinating provenance, their life associated with the great houses and families of England, historic figures, magnificent European collections and the revered gallerists of La Belle Epoch in Paris.
Some seventy lots will be offered across eight auctions at Sotheby’s London, including the dedicated Jubilee and Modern & Contemporary art evening sales. They include a quintessential landscape of Vétheuil by Monet, one of Degas’s finest pastel over monotype depictions of the ballet, a portrait of Millais’ daughter and a view of Tissot’s London garden, together with important Regency-era silver.
Highlights will be exhibited in New York (11-17 May), Taipei (26-27 May) and Hong Kong (4-7 June) prior to the pre-sale exhibitions in London.
