You did not leave home like this. This is what the journey does.’

HOME?, curated by actor and refugee-child Noma Dumezweni, brings together global voices, stories and experiences to mark Refugee Week, created in collaboration with refugee artists.

The online series launched in June 2021 with three world premiere monologues to celebrate and recognise those who have sought safety from their homes, their place within our collective community and the journey that it took to get there.

This year, the series continues with a new filmed monologue from Maaza MengisteThis Is What The Journey Does. The new monologue is now available to watch on YouTube for free alongside the three 2021 monologues, which have been re-released and are now available to watch for a month from today.

This Is What The Journey Does is curated and directed by Noma Dumezweni and performed by Stefano A Addae and Martina Laird. Movement direction by Jade Hackett, sound by Khalil Madovi, the adaptation is by Annabel Bolton, prop and costume supervision by George Amielle and Kate Hemstock and filming and editing by Paul Burt.

HOME? is part of One Voice, a series of monologues specially commissioned by The Old Vic and funded by the TS Eliot Estate, that continues this theme of creating pioneering, fresh new work which responds to the issues of today. The One Voice series was conceived by Artistic Director Matthew Warchus.

The three previous monologues are Then & Now by Natasha WalterThe Displaced by Viet Thanh Nguyen and Now I’m Gonna Get Paid by Dina Nayeri.
