King of Stonks is a 6 episode German miniseries starring Thomas Schubert and Matthias Brandt. It is directed by Jan Bonny, Isabell Suba y Facundo Scalerandi.
In style with The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) it is about the biggest con in the German finance history.
Engaging, funny, and entertaining… without being as far out as Scorsese’s, but it is still worth the watch.

The business world is not without risk, it can be difficult, full of sharks and “big” businesses…. And of course it is the ideal terrain for people without scruples nor morals who will go far and beyond to convert a ruinous company into a huge mirage of a success.

Without being overly hilarious and funny, nor too brutal in its delivery, the series finds its rhythm, characters, and its place and defends its place in this genre in style of The Big Short (2015) by the at times genius Adam McKay, amongst others.
Behind all the humor and laughter that this financial world can provide us with when it is depicted, lies a truth that affects us all, to such an extent that we find it hard to believe the frivolousness of some. Sure,it is funny, laugh inducing, but at the end of the day it is tragic.
King of Stonks uses and mixes various forms, such as animations, real life images, and voice off … highly inspired by Scorsesse, yeah, that is an inevitable comparison, however it is done with humor and charm, and, what the heck, those two rascals even end up being likable. In fact, they become so likable that we cannot but become accomplices of their peccadillos.
Great rhythm, good structure, interesting characters. It is is indeed a story to be told, and well told it is.
