Synopsis
A pool cleaner leads a double life as a vampire hunter to provide for his 8-year-old daughter.
Review
The movie sets the tone right from the start with Tupac Shakur’s California Love and a great sequence of photo takes of L.A, with a desert-like air.
The storyline is well developed and executed. The cinematography creates that dry summer hot ambiance. It is not the best of vampires movies I have seen, but it is a fun viewing experience, with a superb soundtrack.
Definitely inspired by From Dusk till Dawn (1996), it has the same contemporary take on a vampire slayer account, meaning, it is stylistically similar. The characters are peculiar, and amusing, and the setting creates that ambiance of strangeness in what should be quite common.
Jamie Foxx is of course an asset to this movie, whom the audience can always count on for a good performance. Eric Lange’s performance is also amusing, and Snoop Dog’s appearance is, as always, appreciated.
Our Opinion
Slightly reminiscent of From Dusk till Dawn (1996) in style, it is an entertaining vampire slayer movie. The cast is, of course, great counting on one of the best, Jamie Foxx. The screenplay is well put together, although it is not set to be nominated for an Oscar. The characters are amusing, the photography is top of the line. Oh, and the soundtrack is fan-tastic.
