Review

Do you enjoy series about sleuthing and police investigations? The Lørenskog Disappearance is a good example of a classic and entertaining show surrounding a criminal investigation. It is a somber production, very much in line with Nordic noir genre. The Lørenskog Disappearance inspired by real events, is quite well chronicled, and as a fictional piece gives us insights into the characters involved, both the lead investigator, the investigative reporters covering the case and the family of the victim.

It is well constructed, and very coherent in its narrative development, counting on a realistic dialogue and scenarios, it will probably entertain those who like movies about murder mysteries. It is far from an Agatha Christie, being far too realistic for any fancies as far as character construction is concerned.

Do not expect a production on the level of the Millennium trilogy, as this is leans more on a TV drama-thriller. Earthy, you should not expect anything remotely close to Twin Peaks either. It is not as splendid in its characterizations, and being so close to real events, it is more reminiscent to the The Staircase. Is it brilliant? Not particularly. It is though, produced well enough to be to the liking of many viewers, who will watch how the case was tackled from different angles.

The highlights lie on the cast and their performances. The actors have been type casted, giving the characters more realistic leverage.

It builds momentum slowly, coherently, as a good thriller should, and applies suspenseful elements efficiently, and being a mini-series it has the virtue of not prolonging the story more than can be stomached.

Our Opinion

Very efficient in its narrative take, it is difficult not to take seriously. A Nordic noir TV series that being based on a true story gives it much more weight, or credibility. Do not expect a Millenium trilogy in cinematic quality, though. The performances are good, and convincing in their realistic deliveries and portrayals of the different parties involved, from the police, the journalists and investigative reporters, to the family members of the victim.
