William Klein: YES; Photographs, Paintings, Films, 1948–2013 Extended Through September 15, 2022

NEW YORK, NY (September 13, 2022)—The International Center of Photography (ICP) will extend its major retrospective exhibition of the work of William Klein, following the death of the legendary artist in Paris on September 10.

William Klein: YES; Photographs, Paintings, Films, 1948–2013 will be on view through Thursday, September 15, 2022 with special open hours on Tuesday, September 13th 11am to 7pm, Wednesday, September 14th 11am to 7pm and Thursday, September 15th 11am to 9 PM. The exhibition was originally scheduled to close on September 12.

The exhibition presents nearly 300 works, filling ICP’s museum building with photographs, paintings, films, photobooks, and other media from Klein’s expansive and boundary-pushing six-decade career. The first U.S. exhibition devoted to Klein’s work in more than a generation, William Klein: YES is curated by David Campany, ICP’s Curator-at-Large. Campany has worked with Klein for over a decade to bring together the diverse strands of Klein’s global practice in painting, graphic design, street photography, fashion photography, documentary film, fiction film, and books. A fully illustrated book, written by Campany and published by Thames & Hudson, will be published at a later date.

“Through seven decades of extraordinary output, Klein juggled many lives – as a painter, street photographer, fashion photographer, designer, maker of books, writer, documentary filmmaker and fiction filmmaker,” said Campany. “He was a visionary in all ways, disregarding the social and artistic attitudes of his time to cut a unique path both in his commercial work and his personal projects, and across all media. Innovative and uncompromising, he opened countless doors for subsequent image makers around the world. We are deeply saddened by his death.”
