Halloween Ends is the latest installment in the horror franchise that was started by John Carpenter back in the day, and is this time round directed by David Gordon Green. It stars the iconic Jamie Lee Curtis and Will Patton.
Premise
Four years after the events of Halloween in 2018, Laurie has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.
About the Movie
It is a feat that they have managed to create yet another installment thereby keeping the Halloween franchise running for decades, and many of its installments have counted on the same and original heroine, Laurie, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. Kudos to her for that accomplishment.
Now, I will admit that I went in to see this latest (not sure if I dare say “last”) movie with hesitation. But then again, it has become a sort of tradition of its own, hasn’t it? Ultimately Myers is the recurring theme, the manifestation of evil that we all fear so much, and that is time and again defeated, film after film. As with many traditions, or tales that we enjoy hearing over and over again, we know what to expect, and that is what merits its worth. Although, some traditions are tiresome.
Of course, the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis plays a Laurie now older and wiser is a plus. That her character shows some introspection in the face of adversity is positive, as we all enjoy to see the characters evolve. But it does not elevate the complexity of the storyline, and I don’t think that was in any way the intention. It is well produced within the franchise parameters, and given we are nearing the scary festivities, why not see a good old slasher movie for the scares and frights that we can safely watch in this piece of fiction?
