The Greatest Beer Run Ever is a 2022 movie directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book), starring Zac Efron and special appearances by Russell Crowe and Bill Murray.

An anecdotal movie about Vietnam that neither finds its own rhythm nor story.

Synopsis

Chickie wants to support his friends fighting in Vietnam, so he does something wild—personally bring them American beer. What starts as a well-meaning journey quickly changes Chickie’s life and perspective. Based on a true story.

Movie Review

This is an anecdotal movie about Vietnam that neither finds its own rhythm nor story.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever is a film that presents us to a character with little to do in life and suddenly in a bout of confusion decides to go to Vietnam with a backpack full of beer cans: anecdotal or surreal, or perhaps a bit of both, and at the end of the day, neither.

Yo Me Encargo de la Cerveza
The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2022)

This is precisely the same that happens to the movie that puts itself in between drama and comedy (as Farrelly did with Green Book, although more successfully), and ends up becoming a movie that is not particularly funny movie, and as a war movie, well, we have seen better.

It is a movie that follows the trajectory of “I was passing by (Vietnam)”, but that does not quite seem to find its place in history. Similar to the character’s journey, or should we say, similar to “what happened to the war”.

The movie starts well, true, but it lacks a more engaging take, with more “gripping” scenes. To us it is neither engaging nor convincing, with its easy dialogue lines and simple premise that given the context it fails to give us really comedic sequences, or any grandiose war movie scenes, thereby becoming undefinable and weak in its approach.

Our Opinion

We give it a five out of ten, as the idea behind the story and screenplay is good, but unfortunately goes nowhere, so to speak.
