Don’t Leave (Kal) is a 2022 drama movie directed by Ozan Açiktan starring Burak Deniz and Dilan Çiçek Deniz.
A good romantic drama with convincing acting, in an urban setting and modern in take, it will definitely be to the liking of many a viewer.
Premise
Semih’s girlfriend suddenly breaks up with him. In search of answers about their relationship, he must soon confront what he had long ignored. He is a womanizer.
Movie Review
Tender, intimate and modern. The Turkish film industry surprises us with this contemporary movie about a romantic relationship, very reminiscent of American indie movies, it is intimate, talks about the troubles a couple has to face, and the world today.
It is not novel within the genre, nor in its approach as it follows a predefined structure for this type of productions, and of course counts on two beautiful leads who are good actors, especially Burak Deniz, who takes center stage in most scenes in the movie. Together with the stunning Dilan Çiçek Deniz they know how to interpret the dramatic scenes in roles that are not further complicated.
Despite not telling us a new story, it does entertain, offering us what we more or less had expected. ‘Don’t Leave’ is a movie about the quotidian and is narrated at a moderate tempo. It does not want to force itself upon the viewer, neither with the performances nor with the narrative structure, and seeks to flow with, rather than overwhelm, the spectator.
And it manages to have that impact on us, although it does not amaze, nor leave a mark for us to remember it in posterity.
It is successful in its simplicity, in the way the protagonist and his story does, just passing by without impressing on us memorable scenes.
Our Opinion
Modern, cool and indie. ‘Don’t Leave’ gives us urban cinema about romance where there is nothing novel but it does engage us with its good tempo and ability to bring us close to the characters.
