Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend is a movie written and directed by Robert Moresco, starring Frank Grillo and Mira Sorvino.

A biopic that, true enough, revitalizes an era, but does not give us much more than a glimpse of the 50’s and 60’s Italy.

Frank Grillo does, though, offer us a very good portrayal in a role that fits him like a glove.

Premise

Ferruccio Lamborghini start was in tractor manufacturing. Once World War II started, he turned to the manufacture of military vehicles, which ultimately led him to become the designer of the high end Lamborghini cars. The company took another turn in 1963 dedicating its capacities to the manufacture of sports cars Automobili Lamborghini.

Movie Review

Most of us know the brand, and now we are offered a chronicle of the history behind high end sports cars. It is interesting, but does not shine on a dramatic and artistic level. If you are curious to know more about Ferrari’s competitor, and in getting yet another look at that era that is somewhat romanticized ‘Lamborghini’ is a good choice.

The atmospherics are really good, and we get to see a Fran Grillo in a role that differs from his usual action packed interpretations. In this movie he proves that he can take on a dramatic role convincingly, even though we are talking of a biopic.

The movie reaches its goal in an almost documentary format, with dramatizations to relay this story ridden with ambition and competition. Is it interesting in a cinematic sense? We are inclined to say it isn’t, and that it seems to be a movie where the prime objective was to simply convey the history, rather create and produce a marvel of epic proportions.

Our Opinion

A relatively well produced movie, biopic. Cinematically, it does not stand out, though it will probably be of interest to car aficionados, and nostalgic souls who dream of a better time past – this is the perfect excuse to escape to the 50’s and 60’s.
