The Girl and the Astronaut is a science-fiction series from Poland with a very well done setting that wisely mixes photographic realism with science-fiction of new technological innovations.

About the Series

Without being Minority Report, but in that same style in some of its innovations, this is a thriller plot and romance that combines both artfully and with rhythm in the six episodes you can see on Netflix as of today.

In The Girl and the Astronaut they have known how to mix atmospheres and combine a certain “retro” touch with futuristic design elements. The series has a lot to offer visually and stands out because of its sets that are worth seeing.

This is not a series that will stand  out because of the action scenes, this is more of a slower thriller, with characters that take their time in being developed and who are able to add their touch to the story… if you decide to penetrate in this thriller of relativity and romance.

A series that emphasizes on the more human side of things curiously.

A good project in this field of science-fiction.

Storyline

An astronaut’s return after a 30-year disappearance rekindles a lost love and sparks interest from a corporation determined to learn why he hasn’t aged.

Episode 1

Two friends and F-16 pilots, Nikodem and Bogdan, compete for the heart of the beautiful Marta and a spot on a space expedition. Niko wins the latter, but due to an unexplained failure, he returns from his mission after 30 years. Despite the passage of time on Earth, he didn’t age at all. While Niko thinks only of Marta, the world wants to know the secret of his eternal youth.

Episode 2

Nadia searches for information about the mission and its astronaut. Niko and Bogdan compete for a spot in the space program — and Marta’s heart.

Episode 3

Tension mounts between Niko and Bogdan as they both develop feelings for Marta. Nadia tries to bring Niko out of hibernation but hits a wall.

Episode 4

While Marta and Bogdan drift apart in 2052, Niko prepares for the flight in 2022 and reevaluates his relationship. Nadia gets a surprise visitor.

Episode 5

Waking up after hibernation, Niko is determined to break out of the facility in Russia and find Marta. Nadia tries to cover her tracks.

Episode 6

With Marta, Niko and Bogdan reunited, they must make a difficult decision about their future as the FSB follows hot on their trail.
