The Locksmith is a movie directed Nicolas Harvard starring Ryan Phillippe and Kate Bosworth.
This is a movie that doesn´t try or attempt to escape from the clichés it is born into.
The actors who are pretty good can´t escape from a screenplay that does not want any interpretations.
Movie Review
Everything in The Locksmith is something we have heard about before, from the story of the good criminal with a bad friend, but a nice guy, the ex-wife and above all, the story of a criminal forced to get involved in shady deals after leaving prison.
The Locksmith is a movie we have all seen a thousand times, and this time, although it is not a bad film, is just another part of this same repeated story so that, once again, one can make some cash with “what the audience demands” in this American story that, although is well directed and with good actors, has nothing new to offer…
It has its good parts, the star couple, (she´s a detective and he is an ex-convict) and the actors know how to play their roles. The director is good in the genre and the ambiance is… perfect. The production team knows what they are doing (they´ve done this before) and however… the movie rolls along in this tiring screenplay that although it knows how to raise the tension in crescendo, the apathy of the screenplay sifts to the viewer with its lack of expectations, its “not much to be found here”.
It is a let-down that convinces technically and lets us down in ambition, it is convincing because everyone is a pro without a doubt.
Our Opinion
Hollywood handles these scenarios of humble people, separated spouses and, criminals with a good heart, it has worked in the past (very well) and still does. Why not produce yet another movie with the same, identical plot? And, here you are, The Locksmith.
