‘Cocaine Bear’. Movie Review: A Comedy of the Absurd

Cocaine Bear (2023)

Cocaine Bear is directed by Elizabeth Banks, with an ensemble cast that includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings and Alden Ehrenreich.

A movie that starts off with a comic bump and cites Wikipedia as a source can’t be bad, can it?

If you take it seriously, it’s a B-movie with little plot and a series of “well-worn” jokes that are probably funnier after you’ve had two or three whiskeys or your favorite substance.

If you don’t take it seriously: it’s an eighties revival that’s lot of fun and is done with period effects.

Very funny.

Plot

A guy throws some packets of cocaine out of a plane, which end up in the paws of a bear, which dances furiously in a park that is similar to Yellowstone – but with an entirely different Yogi there…

About the Movie

Funny, but little more than a one and-a-half hour long joke that – depending on the day you’re having -can seem funny, very funny, or not funny at all if you’re just not having the right kind of day.

It’s nonsensical, absurd, and only has one goal: to make you laugh. To the sound of a Friday the 13th in Yellowstone Park, the little bear will be exhausted after enjoying a feast of another kind of sandwiches… some kids find the packages, lots of hand-held camera with effects and a soundtrack from the eighties… absurd, funny and fantastic or, frankly, stupid.

It’s a series of funny gags, with characters that lack depth, and the story goes nowhere… yes – all that is true, but it is also true that you can spend a very entertaining and crazy hour and-a-half with this nice bear and his evil and bloody adventures.

With no plot whatsoever, be forewarned.

Our Opinion

An absurd B-movie, a comedy that fits the category of… because life is short, let’s waste an hour and-a-half, seeing as we don’t have anything more interesting to do.
