John Wick 4 (John Wick Chapter 4) stars Keanu Reeves, Rina Sawayama and Bill Skarsgård. The film is directed by Chad Stahelski.

John Wick 4 is probably the most aesthetic of the saga: an excellent setting, even better scenery and choreography that will undoubtedly delight action movie lovers.

One more time, the mix of Eastern martial arts and Hollywood action works again, in this almost mannerist film that takes the action to the edge of the video-game style.

About the film

A delight as comforting as it is easy to forget, at least for its plot. The fourth installment of John Wick is, from the beginning, pure aesthetics of multiple influences, especially (and obviously) oriental, but the movie doesn’t hesitate to present us with different styles on a journey around the world with exotic landscapes and skylines, curated and artistic, absorbing and wonderful. But as visually pleasing as this turns out, they won’t let us forget this is an ass-kicking movie, with lots of punching, flying kicks, shooting, running and crazy stunts, , because this is what happens when our favorite hitman is pissed off. (Puedes cambiar pissed off por angry, si te parece demasiado.)

This fourth installment is almost, almost a video game: it goes from scene to scene of action with some pause times, but surely, at each level, we will find a final boss to face. The worlds are designed with their own aesthetics, as we accompany the hero in his flight to nowhere.

It is a delight for action lovers who will enjoy remembering the previous three. It knows how to use the keys that brought success to the saga and, highly stylized and improved, make them explode again in a three-hour film that flies by in the blink of an eye (if you like action, but if you like Antonioni… there are other options to compare).

It’s not simple filmmaking, not at all, it’s not plot-driven, the crafting is entirely aesthetic and it’s one of those films “to watch” rather than to think about.

John Wick 4 is so excellent at everything technical that it makes us forget everything else.

Our opinion

A sweet to enjoy, to admire in all its preparation and that, although forced, works in this formula which, apparently, we all still love.
