A tribute to 70s cinema in the purest “Pulp” style. This movie could have easily become a forgettable parody, but instead, it asserts its worth through visual elements.

No, it’s not “art-house cinema” nor a film for niche audiences. It’s a highly entertaining comedy with extravagant dialogues that, through surrealism and farcical situations, reflects on more serious matters while maintaining a comedic tone without delving into social criticism.

Above all, it’s a very enjoyable film that owes much to the excellent performances of the actors and, it must be mentioned, the outstanding screenplay by Tony Rettenmaier and Juel Taylor. They achieve a delicate balance by blending genres and paying homage to cinema while creating a movie with its own unique flavor and personality.

It knows how to guide the audience, providing them with good jokes and offering excellent comedic dialogues that the actors, especially Foxx, take full advantage of. However, the film never becomes a run-of-the-mill buddy movie nor loses its pace as a comedic thriller with touches of surrealism or, essentially, an absurd comedy with a message.

The concept of mind control through fried chicken and a church turned into a party brings much humor.

It has many twists and, above all, keeps the audience thoroughly entertained.

A perfect movie for this Friday.
