Midsommar is a film written and directed by Ari Aster, starring Florence Pugh, that is very, very interesting, and it packs a punch. The movie is about a cult in Sweden and the summer solstice. Everyone seems friendly, but as you might guess, things are not always what they seem.

The story revolves around a girl who experiences a tragedy in her family and decides to go on vacation with her boyfriend (and friends) to explore life in Sweden. They end up in a cult with some strange, odd, and peculiar people who adore runes, changes, and seem to have taken some extra dose of LSD.
The film is visually striking, with a unique script that will gradually hook you. It is refreshingly original in both its storyline and concept, mixing cultural differences well. The plot is introduced and carried out skillfully, becoming more and more gruesome as the story unfolds.

The movie starts off slowly, and you might wonder where it’s going, but it gradually develops into a terrifying tale that is neither straightforward nor medieval, but rather a blend of both. It takes you on a journey between the madness that invades everything and the darkness that covers it all.
The movie’s pace is excellent, and the narrative is superbly crafted. It may take a while to get into, but you’ll be grateful for the duration of the film.

Reviews of the movie have been mixed. Some people love it, while others hate it. It has had a greater impact on audiences than critics, who are usually “over everything. It’s generally believed that the film is a bit crazy, but that’s the point.
If you love the bizarre and twisted, as we do, you’ll enjoy Midsommar, which deserves four stars. It’s a movie that will make you think twice about visiting Sweden, and you’ll lose your appetite for celebrating the harvest.
