Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case | True Crime Documentary on Netflix: Not all meals are served with the best intentions

Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case is a documentary directed by Christo Tomy.

In Kerala, a respected mother is arrested in India, accused of six deaths within the family. Her name is Jolly Joseph, a Technology teacher who was also a cold-blooded killer. The news spread throughout India and the media wasted no time in covering it. Now, Netflix reconstructs the events in this new true-crime story that arrives just in time for Christmas.

Almost like Santa Claus.

About the documentary

A new true crime on Netflix takes us to India and the poisoning murders of six family members. Joy Joseph was arrested and even confessed to her crimes, but the story doesn’t end there because (as her lawyer tells us in the documentary, confessions to the police hold no validity).

“Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case” reconstructs the events, but once again covers a case that became instantly sensational: the whole of India felt curious about that woman, and the media rushed to cover the news. Reporters camped outside the residence, waiting for every movement inside the house.

The news spread, and Jolly Joseph was even accused of being involved in a sexual business, but the police faced difficulties in finding evidence to prove the poisoning, without finding traces of cyanide.

Meanwhile, the whole country was focused on an investigation and a woman who, once again, responded to the cameras, even joking. Could evidence found six years later be considered valid? Is the lawyer’s version correct, stating that all evidence was aimed at incriminating the woman?

Once again, and this time for Christmas, Netflix brings us a true crime story that, full of mysteries, morbid events, murders, and a case that, as news, shook an entire country.

Enjoy it, happy holidays, and above all, be careful what you consume!
