Notre-Dame is a series directed by Hervé Hadmar, starring Roschdy Zem, Caroline Proust and Megan Northam.
Premise
As the Paris firefighters try to stop the flames from spreading in the Cathedral, the show also follows characters being put through the wringer – they will have to fight each other, love each other, come across each other, hate each other, smile at or help each other – so that, in the end, they may have a chance to start all over again.
About the Series
The concept of choral drama with a French take that leads to become a huge drama. It is a good series that revolves around a night that affects in various ways the entire population, and the show puts special emphasis on the heroes of that night, those whom suffocated the fire and risked their lives going beyond their sense of duty.
That is what important symbols do. The one and only Victor Hugo, the great novelist of the 19th century, who strongly opposed the demolition, back in his day, of Notre-Dame. With the use of his mighty pen he tried to ensure Paris maintained its symbol, and why not, write one of the most successful novels with merely twenty years of age.
This series is closer to Les Misérables than it is to The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, as it is deeply dramatic and it tells us the stories of the people involved in stopping the fire, and who were all, each in their way, marked by the incident.
It is a good series if you are seeking drama rather than suspense. It is very evocative with the excruciating scenes of the fire. ‘Notre-Dame’ focuses on the suffering, without becoming intimate in a Bergman way, it gives us a more social perspective.
This is a good choice for the viewers who want to immerse themselves in a very serious series, emotional, that does not astound technically but manages to convey the multiple narratives in a rather interesting, albeit not novel, way.
