Sydney – Tuesday 2 May, 2023. Grammy-nominated UK indie soul star Arlo Parks will bring her brand of dazzling intimacy to the Concert Hall on Thursday 20 July for her Sydney Opera House debut.
The bedroom pop sensation will perform songs from her long-awaited sophomore album My Soft Machine, which releases on 26 May. The deeply personal body of work features a collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers, and a punchier synth-driven sound drawing inspiration from shoegaze icons My Bloody Valentine.
“Few young artists capture the sensual detail of contemporary life as brilliantly and empathically as Arlo Parks, with her evocative blend of tender indie pop and introspective lyricism. The Concert Hall is the ultimate setting to experience her spellbinding catharsis in all its intimate glory – come inside and witness one of the defining voices of her generation,” said Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall.
The 22-year-old British singer-songwriter launched her career with the 2018 hit ‘Cola’, and was soon heralded as the eminent voice of Gen Z. Led by the unofficial pandemic anthem ‘Black Dog’ and her uplifting signature song ‘Hope’, Parks’ 2021 album Collapsed in Sunbeams became a zeitgeist smash, winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, collecting a BRIT award for Breakthrough Artist, and garnering some high profile fans along the way – from Billie Eilish to Elton John and Michelle Obama.
