Jessica Silverman Enthusiastically Announces Participation in Art Basel Paris 2024, Booth G14

Jessica Silverman is delighted to confirm her gallery’s participation in the 2024 edition of Art Basel Paris, scheduled to run from October 16 to 20 at the prestigious Grand Palais. Stationed at booth G14, the gallery is set to showcase an eclectic array of new and historic works from a distinguished lineup of artists, including Julie Buffalohead, Judy Chicago, Beverly Fishman, Matthew Angelo Harrison, Loie Hollowell, Masako Miki, Woody De Othello, Clare Rojas, Hayal Pozanti, Rose B. Simpson, and Margo Wolowiec.

Sculptural works by Rose B. Simpson, Matthew Angelo Harrison, Woody De Othello, and the gallery’s latest addition, Masako Miki, offer a contemporary reinterpretation of animism. These pieces breathe life into abstract forms or anatomical elements, drawing from diverse cultural and spiritual traditions. A notable piece is Miki’s wool and walnut wood sculpture titled Rising Prayer Beads (Pink) (2024), which evokes the tale of a Buddhist monk whose prayer beads come to life, serving as both guide and animated presence.

Paintings by contemporary surrealists Clare Rojas and Hayal Pozanti offer fantastical visions of natural landscapes. Pozanti’s vibrant oil stick on linen compositions draw inspiration from the lush environs of rural Vermont, while Rojas’s oil on linen works, such as Bathing in the Misty Rainbow (2024), plunge viewers into dreamlike realms where realistic figures navigate surreal, fantastical scenarios.

Spanning generations, the work of Loie Hollowell, Judy Chicago, and Julie Buffalohead engages deeply with feminist ideologies through the lenses of mythology and allegory. Historic geometric lithographs from 1973 by Chicago will be thoughtfully juxtaposed with contemporary paintings like Hollowell’s Around the Clock in Flesh Red and Purple (2024), which employs spiritual abstraction to celebrate themes of maternity, kinship, and the intimate bond of breastfeeding.

Thus, the Jessica Silverman gallery promises an enriching and thought-provoking presentation at Art Basel Paris 2024, reflecting a dynamic intersection of contemporary art and timeless themes.
