“Nimona” is an animated film directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane.
“Nimona” is a very cohesive adaptation of the comic by ND Stevenson, arriving on Netflix with the commendable purpose of entertaining and providing a pleasant spectacle. While it may not go down in the annals of cinema history, it deserves credit for seeing the light of day in a production that doesn’t bear the Pixar seal or come under the auspices of Disney.
Perhaps that’s why this animation deserves our respect, as it manages to win over viewers from the very first minute.
About the Film
This film cleverly plays with two different time periods, blending the futuristic and medieval in a combination that, though daring, works coherently. The characters and story also maintain coherence, as does the film’s ability to cater to different audiences. It offers something different to everyone and, most importantly, doesn’t treat the viewer as a passive subject of marketing.
“Nimona” includes betrayals, well-developed characters, and scenes that cater to younger audiences, all in a fantasy that manages to appeal to a wide range of viewers and earn their affection.
A film made with relative modesty, but with conviction, style and imagination.
Our Opinion
A film that respects the viewer, captivates them, and, through its well-executed work, also earns their respect. It’s a youth-oriented film that is also intelligent, a combination that doesn’t appear together in the same sentence as often as it should.
Plot
A knight accused of a terrible crime turns to a teenage shapeshifter to prove his innocence. But what if she is the monster he has sworn to destroy?
