About this documentary
América vs. América is a documentary about América, the emblematic Mexican soccer club that was brought about thanks to the dreams of the owners of a TV channel (Televisiva), and has turned out to become quite a show bordering a spectacle. The club is controversial; it is as loved as it is hated; it is considered grand and by others it is considered an absurd exaggeration. This peculiar soccer club and its founders have definitely managed to become recognized both domestically and internationally. And well, this documentary lives up to the fanfare.
Let us be crystal clear: if you do not like soccer there will be little for you to gain from watching this show. If you do on the hand adore soccer, you are in for a treat. It is an entertaining and fun-to-watch docu-series.
This documentary series is produced with much care and appreciation for Club América, and a profound love for the sport. It is lighthearted and endearing, it will make you laugh, and ultimately it manages to capture both the spectacle that a TV show can be and the great show that the soccer club embodies with its grand gestures and minor miseries.
So here we have six episodes for soccer fans showcasing its ins and outs, and goings-on, geographically far away from the European leagues, it shines in its territory and amongst its people, and thanks to this amusing documentary we get to know this club better. We have to say that Netflix has surprised us today with yet another good documentary about sports and an absolutely enjoyable one.
